Heh, I don’t really know where to start this…

A couple of you heard about this, but most didn’t.  Around the beginning of 2001, I started to realize that computers weren’t my thing to do for a career anymore, and decided to start going back to my roots in cars.  As I type this, I should only be a couple days away from getting the final grade from the last class I had to complete to get my Associates in Networking.  I WAS originally planning to go to Lincoln Tech in Columbia, MD.  But after talking to the manager at Pohanka Chevrolet near my parents house, it sounded like Nashville Auto Diesel College was a better route to go (cheaper overall too).  The manager even said I didn’t need a resume if I wanted to work there if I go to that school.  His best employees came from that college.  So that was another option for me…

On the 18th of December, my parents and I had one of NADC’s representative drive here to talk to us about the school.  And after a couple hours of talking and signing a bazillion papers, I applied for the college and start January 15th.  I will be getting a degree in auto mechanics, as well as high performance engines and restoration if I heard him right (48 weeks for the main degree, another 10 weeks after for the high performance stuff… Like NASCAR and hot rod performance).  I’ll learn more about it in the next week or two…

So what does this mean?  Well for one, it’s another year at least before I can move out somewhere and have Julie live with me *grumble*, no KainCon 2002, and probably no AnthroCon 2002 for me either.  I wont have ANY free time whatsoever from that college for the next 58-60 weeks.

I wasn’t expecting to start college like this so soon, let alone away from VA where my parents’ house is (And where KainCon has been hosted for the past 6 years).  It is for the best, though… I won’t have to worry about college for quite a long while after this, and I’ll have tons of good paying job opportunities when I finish.  I’ll be a good 12 hour or so drive from my parents’ house being in Nashville, about 4.5 hours from Julie, and 3 hours from relatives in Kentucky.  I doubt I will be in Virginia much while college is going on, unfortunately…

As for KainCon and its future… *sigh* Good question.  I do NOT plan to quit it for good. It will miss one year (2002), but I should be able to start it again in 2003.  Hopefully at my parents’ house as it has been in the past.  My parents told me (before the NADC thing came up) that I could host it again here in 2002 no problem, and it was a play-it-by-ear thing for any year past.

And that brings me to AnthroCon 2002. I paid for sponsorship, reserved 2 rooms linked, but I doubt I can go unless there’s little college work that coming weekend and I had the time and money to fly for the weekend.  I am not saying I will not go, but it looks real slim right now.  Since I will be paying for the tuition on my own (If I understood the game plan correctly), I wont have much in the way of spending money.

As for sirkain.net, I hope to move the server up to where Gushi is before I leave if I can afford it.  It’s the server’s last prayer of staying online while I am away at college, as I do not plan to renew my Erols account any more.  I am sorry for this to be last-minute to those who have web pages or mailing lists on my server, but I wasn’t expecting all this to happen so quickly. :P I’m trying to do what I can to make sure NOBODY gets screwed.  If I can afford the monthly fee for it being co-located with Gushi after I figure out my debts and finances, I am moving it there and it should stay there for a good time to come and have a great deal of speed to it.  If you have an account on here, I guess plan to make sure you have backups of everything you may need access to, just in case for some reason I cant find another place for the server and it has to stay offline for a while (I wont be wiping nay drives or anything, so no data would be lost if that happened).

Obviously there will not be any LAN parties here once I move out while I am at college… For those of you who come to my LAN parties, most of you should know I am not the only guy who can host them.  The LANWarrior program Josh made will let people put in other locations that LAN parties can be hosted at besides my place.

If you want to stay in touch, I’d advise to not email me anymore at sirkain@erols.com, because I do not know when that account will expire or if I will have easy access to it when I move.  Stick to sirkain@onebox.com for now, and its voicemail # is 703-234-3950 x8320.  If you want my college address and phone # when I get it, e-mail me and let me know so I know who to send the info to.  I am taking a tour of the college on the 3rd on my way to Julies. I may know by then what the information is.  I don’t know when I move in there yet either. :P

I plan to write when I can to my Live Journal.  I plan to write there on anything new I find.  If you care to read it, it is at http://sirkain.livejournal.com/ .

I guess that is all for now. If you have any questions, e-mail me at sirkain@onebox.com or call me if you know my # (E-mail if you need it).
